The inaugural Translation Forum at AFCC celebrates those who are passionate about translating children’s literature. We focus on the efforts of the translation of stories authored in languages Other Than English, and spotlight ongoing initiatives that seek to nurture translation communities in their own regions.
Spanning two days from 28 to 29 May, the Translation Forum offers a variety of programmes targeting different aspects of translation, from resources for translators to sessions that focus on the craft of translation. Highlight sessions include a workshop on buying and selling rights by prolific literary translator Lawrence Schimel, and a masterclass on English to Chinese picture book translation by 2022 Carle Bridge Honoree 阿甲 (Ajia), an established children’s literature translator himself. Avery Fischer Udagawa, recipient of the 2022 Mildred L. Batchelder Award, will also provide insights on her advocacy of stories authored in underrepresented languages.
The Translation Forum is supported by the National Translation Committee.
