This panel explores how we can cultivate multicultural understanding in young minds through translated literature and the introduction of translation. Our speakers will share their experiences in bringing translated children's books across languages and cultures, and how this nurtures empathy, respect for differences, and a love of languages in children.

叶俊良 (Chun-Liang Yeh) (Taiwan/France)
叶俊良来自台湾，2007 年与黎雅格 Loïc Jacob 在法国创办鸿飞文化出版社。鸿飞每年出版约 10 种新书，大部分是以旅行、对未知的好奇和人我关系为主轴的儿童图画故事书，其中《花木兰》以其出色的插图获得2015 年上海陈伯吹国际儿童文学奖。叶俊良长期与欧洲伙伴合作，善于和创作者展开对话，提供法国读者能够理解和欣赏的图画书，包括具有亚洲文化内容的作品。
Chun-Liang Yeh grew up in Taiwan and founded the publishing house HongFei Cultures with Loïc Jacob in France in 2007. HongFei publishes about 10 new titles per year, most of which are picture books for children on three major themes : Travelling, Curiosity and Relationships. La Ballade de Mulan won the Chen Bochui Award in Shanghai in 2015 with its outstanding illustrations. Chun-Liang Yeh, having worked with European partners for many years, is at ease in guiding creators to deliver picture books, including those with Asian cultural content, that can be understood and appreciated by French readers.
Eugene Evasco (Philippines)
Eugene Y. Evasco is a writer, editor, translator, and collector of children’s books. He is currently a Full Professor at the UP College of Arts and Letters. Some of his new books at Lampara are Ang Nag-iisa at Natatanging si Onyok, Ang Singsing-Pari sa Pisara, Ang Beybi naming Mamaw, and the Filipino translation of Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White. In 2014, he won the UP Gawad sa Natatanging Publikasyon sa Filipino (Malikhaing Pagsulat category). He became a part of the Hall of Fame of the Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature in 2009 and is currently a Fellow of the UP Institute of Creative Writing. He was accepted as a Research Fellow to the International Youth Library in Munich, Germany.
Norlin Samat
Norlin Samat is a publisher and the author of Ally’s Adventures, a bilingual children’s book series, whose interactive story sessions are a hit with both children and their parents. A passionate educator, Norlin understands the importance of making learning enjoyable and fun. This guides her when she develops and runs educational programmes for children, parents and teachers. She holds a postgraduate diploma in education and a master of arts degree in language studies.
Moderator Michelle Chan (Hong Kong)
Michelle Chan's research includes Victorian Literature, Fantasy, and Children’s Literature, with a recent focus on healing and picture books, fairy tales, translating visual narratives, and transmedia presentation of children’s literature. Most of her works concern how children’s texts are received and reinterpreted in contemporary society. She has recently received funding to promote Asian children’s literature, including Korean picture books and Hong Kong children’s literary history, respectively.
