Classics for Children: Retelling Stories from Sejarah Melayu (The Malay Annals)

Asian children are more familiar with the adaptations of Western classics and tend to neglect reading the classics from their own cultures. How can we encourage Asian children to explore more of these classics? This session will look at how old tales and legends from the Sejarah Melayu have been given new life in their retelling with augmented reality.
Hidayah Amin (Singapore)
Hidayah is a Singapore-born, award-winning author. Her first short story The Funny Accident was published when she was 11 years old. When the Singapore government acquired her childhood home, Hidayah resumed writing and published Gedung Kuning: Memories of a Malay Childhood. Since then, she has written eight nonfiction books and eight children’s books. Her books The Mango Tree and Leluhur: Singapore’s Kampong Gelam have won literary awards.
