Hear from three Singaporean authors each writing for different age groups, picture book; intermediate; middle grade and YA, as they share their experiences crafting brand new stories and adapting old ones by drawing from their heritage. In this session, they share how they mined ideas and developed new angles for new stories.
Emily Lim-Leh (Singapore)
Emily has authored over 40 children’s books and several essays for various publications. She is a three-time IPPY Award winner and the first Southeast Asian recipient of the Moonbeam Children’s Book Award. Emily was named MediaCorp’s Singapore Woman Award Honoree for inspiring readers with her children’s books and memoir Finding My Voice, which chronicled her journey of losing her voice to a rare illness and finding a new voice in writing.
Low Ying Ping (Singapore)
Ying Ping is the bestselling author of the Mount Emily novels, a middle grade/young adult fantasy series featuring time travel and friendship, as well as Prophecy of the Underworld, a quirky and full-filled middle grade adventure story. Her novels have won the Singapore Book Awards and have been shortlisted for other prizes such as the Hedwig Anuar Children’s Book Award and the Popular Readers’ Choice Award.
Pauline Loh (Singapore)
Pauline is an award-winning author and a creative writing teacher. She has 30 years of writing experience and has published 12 adult non-fiction books, six young adult books and nine children’s storybooks. She was a runner-up for the Scholastic Asian Book Award and her books have been shortlisted for the Hedwig Anuar Children’s Book Award, Singapore Book Awards and longlisted for the Epigram Books Fiction Prize.
Moderator Hwee Goh (Singapore)
Hwee Goh spent 16 years as a TV journalist at Channel News Asia before extending her writing to books. In 2015, she produced the bestselling Lee Kuan Yew and a few non-fiction titles for kids. She followed through in 2018/9 with The Plano Adventures, a fantasy series based on science, with co-author Mo Dirani. Hwee is also an Editorial and Communications specialist at The Media Consultants Singapore.
