Theme - The Worlds We Make
Children's literature is more vital than ever–both a mirror and a map, reflecting our diverse realities while guiding young readers to find their place in a fast-changing world, and empowering them to create the future they want. The landscape of literature is shifting, expanding to new voices and adapting to new technologies. The Worlds We Make invites us to investigate how stories can be powerful drivers of action, and our role as creators of children’s content in the futures we build, the communities we imagine, and the changes we hope to make.

Festival Key Visual

This year's AFCC key visual is created by designer and artist Claire Low.
This fantasy land is an amalgamation of everyday elements and objects. From my childhood make-believe “flying carriage” setup (inspired by what my sister and I used to build when we were playing “protect the goods”) to childhood foods and toys that make up the landscape where all these imaginary creatures live.
The idea behind this piece was inspired by the carefree way children transform everyday objects into new fantasy worlds. How, through play, they are able to explore the physical world around them and the metaphorical world in their ever-developing emotional landscape.
This concept is a nostalgic invitation to reclaim that same whimsy and boldness that comes with the act of creation in childhood, as we envision the possibilities in the world we live in and the worlds we can create.
