Opening Ceremony and Awards Presentation

Opening the Asian Festival of Children’s Content (AFCC) 2014 is the Scholastic Asian Book Award (SABA) presentation that will be graced by Minister for Culture, Community and Youth and 2nd Minister, Ministry of Communications and Information, Mr Lawrence Wong. Also gracing the event is H.H.E. Ms Vijay Thakur Singh, High Commissioner of India in Singapore, as AFCC hails India as the country of focus for 2014.

Headlining this year’s AFCC opening ceremony is the Scholastic Asian Book Awards (SABA), a biennial search for outstanding writers of children’s material in Asia or of Asian origins. The award is worth S$10,000, awarded to an unpublished manuscript or translation of an original work in English targeted at children of ages 6 to 18 years. First awarded in 2011, the judges for SABA 2014 are Sayoni Basu (Chairman; India), Ken Spillman (Australia), Marjorie Coughlan (Canada), Sarah Odedina (UK), and Wanitcha Sumanat (Thailand).
