Asian Festival of Children’s Content
22—25 May 2025

[Announcement on Monday 8 September 2025]

Since 2011, the Scholastic Asian Book Award (SABA), a partnership between Singapore Book Council and Scholastic Asia, has celebrated children’s fiction rooted in Asian experiences.

Over six award cycles, more than 30 manuscripts have been recognised, each
adding to the growing landscape of stories that reflect the richness and diversity of Asia.

Today, with a heavy heart, we share that SABA will not continue.

This was not an easy decision. It does not reflect any doubt in the award’s value or its merit, but rather the difficult trade-offs we must take as we shift our focus and resources.

Even as SABA comes to a close, its spirit lives on in the writers, the mentors and judges who nurtured them, and the readers who will carry these stories forward. We are truly grateful to everyone who has journeyed with us and made SABA what it is.

Though this chapter ends, our commitment to uplifting Asian voices remains unchanged. In
fact, we will continue to champion platforms that celebrate the stories of our region, stories that matter and stories that belong to all of us.
