Welcome to the amazing world of dimensional storytelling, where words and illustrated stories emerge into the 3rd dimension to create exciting Story Worlds.
Students from the Puttnam School of Film & Animation at LASALLE College of the Arts were challenged to create miniature Story Worlds inspired by prompts and synopses of children’s books. These tiny worlds were created based on short extracts from the 2024 Hedwig Anuar Children’s Book Award shortlist or extracts from the AFCC GIF-Book Cover Competition. The students were encouraged to choose books they weren’t familiar with to avoid being influenced by their respective illustrators’ work. Their brief? Create a vignette into the world of these stories, a frozen frame in time where the characters had just stepped out for a brief moment. Some models are “crossovers”, blending elements from two different stories.
The Build Team
These Story Worlds were crafted to capture a visual narrative by the talented students from LASALLE's Diploma and Degree Animation programmes. The project was mentored by children's book illustrator David Liew, who encouraged the students to explore into their creativity and imagination.

THE STORIES
The stories these builds are adapted from a selection of the shortlisted works from the 2024 Hedwig Anuar Children's Book Awards.
