Children’s Literature Lecture & Awards Presentation

Date: 28 May 2013 (Tuesday), 7:30pm – 8:30pm

The Singapore Children’s Literature Lecture and Awards Presentation is the highlight of the Asian Festival of Children’s Content.

Our distinguished speaker is Nancy Johnson who is a professor of English/language arts education at Western Washington University teaches courses in children’s literature, young adult literature, English/language arts methods, and writing. Johnson is the co-author of The Wonder of It All: When Literature and Literacy Intersect, as well as three books about literature circles. She has served on the Caldecott and Newbery selection committees, and was honored by the International Reading Association as the recipient of the Arbuthnot Award for the teaching and advocacy of children’s literature.

iStory: An Invitation, Challenge, and Dare

Story connects us across time, place and culture. It is as ancient as a human experience and as fresh as a download onto a wireless device. This lecture invites, challenges, and dares us all to commit to the “i” – identity, information, imagination, illumination – to keep story alive, even (and especially) in a high tech world.

The Literature Lecture and Awards Presentation will be graced by Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Communications and Information & Ministry of Education, Ms Sim Ann. The Hedwig Anuar Children’s Book Award (HABA) 2013 and the SingTel Asian Picture Book Award (SAPBA) 2013 winners will be announced during the Award Presentation.

Registration is required.
