L1 VISITORS BRIEFING ROOM
Books for Peace

Yuko Takesako (Vice Director, Chihiro Art Museum Azumino)

The past 70 years after the end of the Asia-Pacific War, numerous picture books with the theme of war were created in Japan with the wish for peace. Most of these books deal with the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, or the air raid of Tokyo and other cities, and depict the tragedy of war. Yuko Takesako shares more about “Picture books for peace from China, Japan and Korea”, a collaboration between artists of the three countries and how they cooperated together overcoming boundaries of assailants and victims, sending message of peace to children.
