A moving story about Emma Karas, a young girl raised in Japan but relocated to the U.S. due to a family reason, the novel is rich in language, both spoken and unspoken and poetry that crosses boundaries to create a story layered with love, loss, movement and words.

Holly Thompson is author of the YA verse novels Orchards (APALA Asian/Pacific American Award for Literature) and The Language Inside, and the picture book The Wakame Gatherers, and she edited Tomo: Friendship Through Fiction – An Anthology of Japan Teen Stories. Regional advisor for SCBWI Japan, she teaches at Yokohama City University.
